Fork

"To me, a bistro is a place people like to go; a neighborhood-type restaurant. It's a place to meet friends and have good wine. Bistro cooking isn't what I would call comfort food, but it does have this simple, warm, unpretentious aspect. We've always been striving to maintain that feeling hospitality-wise, food-wise, wine-wise and people-wise."
       - Ellen Yin, Owner

Back in 1997 there were a host of exciting restaurants in Philadelphia, but most of the real action was happening on Walnut Street. The Striped Bass was packing them in, and places like Brasserie Perrier and Rouge were just opening. There were restaurants in Old City, but the space at 306 Market Street (between the dollar store and a discount shirt company) was not exactly classified as prime real estate. Restaurant owners were not standing in line to grab this particular spot. Having said that, a visionary by the name of Ellen Yin opened a restaurant called Fork at 306 Market Street, and Old City soon became one of the hottest destinations on the planet. It's proof positive that restaurants become a catalyst for growth, and people go where people go. Fork is one of Philadelphia's most popular spots because Ellen, and her business partner, Robert Sella, have stayed true to their concept - an emphasis on fresh, seasonal ingredients along with organic products from the local farmers. The food is creative and affordable and the wine program is designed with a genuine concern for quality and value at the same time. Fork is a happening spot that works, and after all these years, it remains consistently outstanding.

Fork, Etc. (308 Market Street) is an all-day take-out or eat-in gourmet food shop with fabulous sandwiches, salads, soups, etc. There is ample seating including a large shared table which is perfect for people on the go.
